CenterPoint Energy is a domestic energy delivery company that includes electricity transmission and distribution, natural gas distribution and sales, interstate pipeline and gathering operations. They serve customers in Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, and Wisconsin.
On the electric and natural gas side, many of these firms are called “diversified” because they are vertically integrated. This integration allows them to not only produce the power but also mine the resources needed, partake of distribution and transmission of services, wholesale marketing, and even commodity trading. Other utilities here deal in the telecommunications field or are holding companies that are diversified because they own a multitude of different companies, some also being utilities.
