
UNITED DOMINION REALTY TRUST is a real estate investment trust company that owns primarily apartments and shopping centers in the South Atlantic region.
“REIT” stands for “Real Estate Investment Trust” which are legal bodies that invest primarily in land or building property for the sole purpose of either developing and selling it or developing and renting it. These trusts invest their assets primarily in residential type buildings from single family homes to multifamily apartment complexes. They will sometimes operate the complexes themselves, renting and leasing them to families and individuals. Often times they will sell their newly developed property to another so they may manage the rental operation.
